Is it really free?
Yes. Everything local is free — the model on your machine, the memory, your vault of plain files — because it runs on your computer, not ours. We're not charging anyone right now, and we won't flip that switch quietly if it ever changes.
What does "bring your own key" mean?
The Lab calls Claude directly from your browser using your own Anthropic API key — so you pay Anthropic cents per run, and chanio servers never see the key or the conversation. Set a $5 cap and that's your whole exposure.
What's the overnight version?
Today you paste the held questions into the AI you already use at night, by hand. We're testing a version that does that paste for you automatically with a small group of real users first — no price attached until it's actually proven.
Where does my data go?
It stays on your machine — your prompts compile to your Obsidian vault on your own disk. Nothing is sold, shared with advertisers, or used to train models. The Lab call goes straight to Anthropic; everything else is local-first.
Will chanio ever cost money?
Not for the first 100 users. If we ever charge after that, it will be for something built and proven, decided with those first users in the open. Nothing here is a subscription and nothing is billed.
